In recent years, with the international community’s concerns to the global warming issue, as well as the pace of energy saving and emission reduction accelerating and a worldwide energy shortage, the coal-based synthetic natural gas(SNG) and coalbed methane(CBM) industry started to surface. Coal, because of its rich global resource, has become the key strategic choice to deal with the global energy crisis and the environment crisis for many countries in the world by accelerating the utilization of clean coal and developing SNG and CBM industry.

As the national vital coal chemical industry base, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, relying on its rich coal resource, took the lead in developing SNG and CBM industry in the key period of energy industry layout thoroughly spread. It transferred to transport deep processing products of coal from the former low-level coal products. It also ranks the first in utilizing clean coal.

As a rising industry, SNG/CBM industry is pinned high hopes the moment it was pointed out, getting attentions from many aspects. In June of 2010, that the natural gas price was adjusted higher pushed SNG/CBM industry at the forefront again. There appeared an upsurge of investing SNG/CBM projests everywhere. Shortly, the State Development and Reform Commission called back the authorization of examining and approving SNG projects, thus laying aside the SNG industry again. How is the SNG/CBM industry going in the future? What opportunities can be brought to SNG/CBM industry by Xinjiang’s revitalization plan? How would the latest State policies affect SNG/CBM industry? All the problems could be found answers on 2010 Xinjiang SNG/CBM (International) Summit.
