US April mixed xylene contract price settles down 7 cents at $3.58/gal

The April US mixed xylene contract price settled 7 cents lower at $3.58/gal ($1,084.74/mt), industry sources said Friday.
Market participants expected a decline in the settlement price because of weak demand in derivative paraxylene and from the Asian region, which is currently well supplied, sources said.
Asia usually depends on mixed xylene imports from the US to help balance their supplies, but this has not been the case so far this year, sources said.
Spot prices averaged around $3.61/gal FOB US Gulf Coast during March and have been on a downward trend since February 18, when assessed at $3.84/gal, Platts data shows.
The US mixed xylene spot price was last assessed Thursday at $3.54/gal FOB USG. Market activity was minimal Friday morning with no bids or offers heard for April.
The March mixed xylene contract price settled 6 cents higher from February at $3.65/gal, sources said.
