Crude exports from the key Russian ports of Novorossiisk and Primorsk fell 20.7% year-on-year in 2014 to 72.7 million mt, operator Novorossiisk Commercial Sea Port (NMTP) said Tuesday.

The drop reflected factors beyond the group's control, such as a significant redirection of flows from Russia's West to the Far East as well as an overall reduction of Russia's crude exports.

Product exports from the two ports in January-December rose 14.8% to 27.7 million mt, as Russian refinery processing increased, NMTP added.

Russia's 2014 crude exports to countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States, or CIS, totaled 199.1 million mt, or 4 million b/d, down 3.7% on the year, as more crude was directed to domestic refineries, according to data from the energy ministry's Central Dispatching Unit, released in early January.

Overall, the two ports handled 131.1 million mt of goods, down 7% on the year.

Coal exports rose 33% to 1.2 million mt, NMTP said.

Grain once again led dry bulk exports, at 7.4 million mt, up from 4.06 million mt a year earlier when exports were hit by a low harvest and high domestic prices.

"Thanks to the good harvest in 2014-2015, grain became one of the leaders of growth," the port said.

Summa Group, a private Russian holding company, and Russian oil pipeline operator Transneft together own 50.1% of NMTP.
