Dow to raise polyethylene prices in Latin America 2 cents/lb starting July 1

Dow plans to implement a 2-cent/lb ($44/mt) hike on all polyethylene grades, effective July 1, throughout South America, Central America and the Caribbean, a company source said Monday.

A balance in demand and supply was cited as the reason for the potential increase. Dow added that Argentina would see a rollover in pricing.

"Demand remains solid in all of the countries -- except Argentina, where it is still adjusting," the source said, adding that imports into the region as a whole were scarce.

The boost comes after Dow's letter last week to customers that they would implement a 4-cent/lb ($88/mt) increase on all PE grades in the Andean region of South America, Central America and the Caribbean, which covers Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Chile and Venezuela.

The uptick for July comes after Dow said it would roll over June pricing throughout Latin America.

In April and May, the company raised PE prices for the Andean region by a total of 9 cents/lb.
