China's ethanol imports plunged 74% month on month to the lowest level in a year at 10,121 cu m in September, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs early this week.

Ethanol imports had rebounded 56% month on month in August to 38,472 cu m after consecutive declines over May to July.

Cumulative ethanol imports over January-September totaled 692,815 cu m, the data showed.

The decline in September was because of a sharp drop in denatured ethanol imports, which fell to 10,097 cu m in September, down 73.75% from August.

The US remained the biggest supplier, accounting for almost the entire amount at 10,092 cu m. Undenatured ethanol imports in September were, however, almost six times higher from August at 24 cu m. Imports in August were merely 3.5 cu m.

Meanwhile, China exported 4,001 cu m pf ethanol in September -- 4,000 cu m of it undenatured ethanol.

For dried distiller grains, or DDGs, Chinese imports dropped 46.63% month on month in September to 272.24 million kg, from 508.2 million kg in August. All of China's DDGS imports in September came from the US.
