DuPont will be flaring as it begins startup activities at its steam cracker in Orange, Texas, according to a filing late Monday by the company on a community hotline.

"This activity is expected to occur for the next several days," DuPont posted on the Southeast Texas Alerting Network.

At least one ethylene trader source said May 24 was the expected startup date. The nameplate capacity is 680,000 mt/year steam cracker.

A DuPont spokesman could not be reached for comment.

Planned maintenance activities at the cracker began on April 20 and were expected to last 15-25 days, sources said.

S&P Global Platts assessed ethylene on Monday flat at 29.75-30.25 cents/lb FD USG for prompt-month and forward-month deliveries at 29.75-30.25, down 0.125 cent.
