According to data from the General Administration of Customs, from January to June, the total amount of imported LPG for China plummeted by 46.69% compared to the same period last year to 1.28-mil mt.
Market sources ascribed the sharp decline to high output of domestic refineries and uncompetitive prices of LPG compared with alternative energy.
However, the import volume for June alone increased 19.67% on month to 328,700mt, , the data showed.
Chinese importers showed more buying interest in June, expecting better import margins, market sources denoted.
China exported 95,200mt of LPG in June, up 23.63% on month. The nation's LPG exports added up to 410,000mt in the first half of this year, down 1.17% year-on-year.
