China's TPU Self-sufficiency Rate May Rise Continuously

According to Bai Yi, vice president of China Petroleum and Chemical Planning Institute, China would adjust industrial structure to raise self-sufficiency rates of high-end Petrochemical products such as polyurethane and so on.

Song Hongwei, analyst from P.H. Consultant pointed out that China’s TPU self-sufficiency rate reached 70-80% in the first half of 2010.

However, TPU self-sufficiency rates of domestic downstream factories in spandex chip, film and adhesive sectors kept relatively lower while they usually rely on the imports and materials from foreign enterprises in domestic market. Besides, low-end sectors like sole market often purchased materials from domestic TPU manufacturers.

He also predicted that self-sufficiency rates of TPU and other PU products would probably climb up due to the increasing domestic capacities, advancing techniques as well as the issue of relevant policies.
