Japan: Japan's JX to shut 3 propylene plants for maintenance in Sep, Oct
https://www.chemnet.com Jul 28,2010
Japan's JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corp. is slated to shut three propylene
plants in September and October for maintenance that will idle 330,000 mt/year
of production capacity for an average of 35 days.
The planned outages are expected to cost JX about 31,000 mt in lost
propylene output between September 19 and November 22.
First to be taken offline is a fluid catalytic cracker at Negishi,
followed by an olefins conversion unit at Kawasaki, and another FCC at
Mizushima.
The FCCs make propylene as a by-product from gasoil, with gasoline and
LPG as their main output. The OCU or metathesis plant makes propylene from
ethylene and raffinate-1.
JX is Japan's largest propylene producer, able to produce 1.175 million
mt/year through 13 plants at 10 sites. Its output is sold domestically and is
also exported. The majority of the company's exports are to China.
On average, China imports about 30,000 mt of propylene each month from
Japan, the bulk of which comprises cargoes made by JX.
JX has scheduled at least 10 propylene maintenance shutdowns this year,
of which these are the last three.PLANT LOCATION CAPACITY TA DETAILS
