On the 4th, United Nations Secretary-General Guterres' spokesperson Dujarric stated that Guterres expressed concern over the United States' initiation of a new round of oil blockade against Cuba.

During the routine press briefing that day, Dujarric mentioned that Guterres is "highly concerned" about the potential worsening or even collapse of the humanitarian situation in Cuba due to unmet oil demands. Guterres pointed out that over the past 30 years, the United Nations General Assembly has consistently called for the lifting of the U.S. economic, financial blockade, and trade embargo against Cuba, and all parties should seek dialogue and respect international law.

On January 29, U.S. President Trump signed an executive order threatening to impose ad valorem tariffs on goods imported from countries that provide oil to Cuba.

Dujarric stated that the United Nations has taken note of the relevant U.S. declarations regarding Cuba and is currently working with the Cuban government to seek ways to alleviate the situation.
