Indonesia's 2025 Solar Power Capacity Reaches 1.49 GW, Renewable Energy Share Falls Short of Target

Indonesia's cumulative installed PV capacity reached 1.49 GW in 2025, with 546 MW added throughout the year. This growth was primarily driven by strong demand for commercial and industrial rooftop PV. However, due to significant delays in the procurement of ground-mounted power plants by the state electricity company (PLN)—originally planned to add 777 MW of ground-mounted capacity, the actual completion fell far short of expectations—Indonesia achieved only 15.75% of renewable energy share in 2025, failing to meet the revised target of 17%-19%.

Currently, Indonesia's PV development faces dual constraints. On one hand, the cancellation of the net metering policy has directly led to a continued downturn in the residential PV market. On the other hand, insufficient execution efficiency of ground-mounted power plant projects has become a major obstacle to industry growth. Based on this, Indonesia's PV industry growth in 2026 will rely primarily on two core initiatives: First, the newly implemented rooftop PV quota system, which opened 485 MW of quotas in January 2026; second, the government's ambitious plan to advance the 100 GW PV microgrid initiative, which will serve as a crucial support for the medium- to long-term development of Indonesia's PV industry.
