Attack on Jubail industrial zone! 6–8% of global petrochemical capacity threatened — Dow, Total, and Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) among those affected

Iran's Fars News Agency reported in the early hours of April 7, citing unnamed sources,an explosion occurred that day in the Jubail industrial area in northeastern Saudi Arabia, causing widespread damage. Jubail is a key global petrochemical production hub,with an annual petrochemical output of about 60 million tonnes, accounting for 6% to 8% of the global total, and it hosts projects from many international major companies.

Among them, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation is the principal investor; the AmericanDow Chemicalis involved in the Sadara project, and the Saudi Aramco and FrenchTotalenergy joint venture projects are also located here.

On the same day, the Saudi Ministry of Defense issued a statement saying it had intercepted and destroyed seven ballistic missiles fired toward the east; some debris fell near energy facilities, losses are being assessed, and the statement did not name the attacker.

In addition, the Israeli Defense Forces announced on the 6th that they had carried out airstrikes that day against a large petrochemical complex in the Asaluyeh area in southern Iran; the facility is Iran's largest petrochemical base.
