Iraq, Pakistan, and Iran sign energy transport agreement

News on May 13: Iraq and Pakistan have recently reached bilateral cooperation agreements with Iran, finalizing relevant transit arrangements for transporting oil and liquefied natural gas from the Gulf region, opening up stable channels for regional energy transportation.

According to the agreement between Iraq and Iran, Iraq has implemented security guarantees for the safe passage of two ultra-large crude oil carriers. The two tankers successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz on May 10, each carrying approximately 2 million barrels of crude oil, successfully completing the task of transporting Gulf crude oil out of the region.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has also signed relevant agreements with Iran, finalizing the liquefied natural gas transport route. Currently, two transport ships loaded with Qatari liquefied natural gas have set sail for Pakistan and will subsequently complete gas supply deliveries in accordance with the agreement.

It is worth noting that, according to sources, neither Iraq nor Pakistan paid any transit-related fees to the Iranian side or the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in this transit arrangement. This move not only ensures the smooth export of Gulf crude oil and Qatari liquefied natural gas but also provides a new transit cooperation model for regional countries to bypass complex geopolitical games and secure low-cost, stable energy supplies.
