SunSirs: China PA6 Market Shows Continued Slight Rebound Recently

According to SunSirs monitoring, the domestic PA6 market over the past week (July 8–14) exhibited a trend of "stability followed by a rise." Prices remained steady at 11,833.33 RMB/ton initially, then increased by 2.54% to 12,133.33 RMB/ton on July 14. In terms of price positioning, the 10-day, 20-day, and 30-day moving averages have surged to "high" levels, while the 60-day and 90-day levels remain in the "medium-low" range, and the annual position sits in the "median" range. Notably, technical indicators show the 10-day moving average crossing above the 20-day and 30-day averages, alongside signals of "over-extension" over the 10, 20, and 30-day periods; this suggests strong short-term upward momentum but also indicates pressure for a technical correction.

Cost Side: The market for the upstream raw material caprolactam (CPL) has seen a rise in cost levels, driven by the volatility and upward trend of pure benzene and crude oil prices. Some caprolactam plants have taken the opportunity to firm up prices, squeezing production margins for PA6 polymerization chips. Due to cost pass-through mechanisms, PA6 manufacturers have been forced to raise quotes to offset mounting cost pressures. Currently, the firmness of raw material prices provides strong support for the PA6 price floor.

Supply Side: Maintenance and load reductions at some PA6 production facilities have caused a slight decline in the industry's overall operating rate, limiting the increase in circulating market supply. Some plants are showing a stronger willingness to hold prices firm and a reduced inclination to sell at low prices, thereby supporting spot market rates. On the demand side, downstream spinning and modification plants remain in the traditional off-season, and end-market orders have yet to see a widespread recovery. However, with raw material prices previously at lows, downstream enterprises have shown increased willingness to restock at lower levels, leading to a slight month-on-month rise in essential procurement volumes. Nevertheless, follow-through from the end market remains limited, and there is caution regarding chasing price increases at higher levels.

Market Outlook: PA6 prices are expected to fluctuate with a bullish bias in the short term. Upstream caprolactam maintains a strong trend, underpinned by solid cost support; meanwhile, easing inventory pressure has prompted producers to hold firm on prices. However, downstream demand remains sluggish due to the off-season, making it difficult to pass on higher costs; consequently, there is insufficient momentum for a sustained, sharp price surge, and a period of consolidation is likely to follow the recent rebound. Key factors to monitor include caprolactam price trends, plant maintenance schedules, and the status of downstream orders for the autumn/winter season.
