Price Trends

According to data monitoring by SunSirs, the reference market price for cyclohexanone in the Shandong region was 8,500 RMB/ton on August 5. This represents a decrease of 300 RMB/ton—or 3.41%—compared to the price on August 1 (8,800 RMB/ton).

During the early part of August (August 1-5), the cyclohexanone market in Shandong exhibited a generally weak, downward trend; market price levels retreated from their highs, and trading negotiations shifted toward the lower end of the range. As of August 5, the reference market price for cyclohexanone in Shandong stood at approximately 8,450-8,550 RMB/ton.

Analysis of Key Influencing Factors

The supply side was under pressure: As of August 5, domestic cyclohexanone production facilities were operating normally overall, and spot market liquidity was relatively ample. Downstream transmission remained lackluster; some major producers faced supply pressure, prompting traders to prioritize inventory reduction and—in some cases—actively lower their quotes. Consequently, the support provided by the supply side to the cyclohexanone market has weakened.

Weak downstream demand: Recently, following a period of phased restocking, downstream demand for cyclohexanone has settled into a pattern of purchasing strictly to meet immediate needs. With market demand remaining relatively subdued, the resulting price support for cyclohexanone is limited.

Declining feedstock costs: As August began, the market for benzene—the upstream feedstock for cyclohexanone—trended downward due to weak conditions. This reduced cost support for cyclohexanone, allowing its market price to follow the feedstock trend and move lower.

Market outlook

As of August 5, trading activity in the Shandong cyclohexanone market remained sluggish, with limited underlying market support. The market is expected to undergo a period of weak consolidation in the near term. Moving forward, close attention should be paid to developments regarding supply and demand dynamics as well as cost factors.
