The new national standard for carbon monoxide has been officially released and will take effect in February 2027.
Recently, the new recommended national standard GB/T 35995-2026 "Carbon Monoxide" was approved for release. This standard will replace the current GB/T 35995-2018 version and will be officially implemented starting from February 1, 2027. The standard information has been made public on the National Public Service Platform for Standards Information.
According to the information published on the platform, GB/T 35995-2026 "Carbon Monoxide" is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Gas Standardization (TC206), and the competent authority is the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation.

The drafting of the standard brought together numerous units including domestic gas production, scientific research and testing, and equipment manufacturing. The primary drafting units include dozens of industry backbone enterprises and research institutions such as Guangdong Huate Gas Co., Ltd., Fujian Jiuce Gas Co., Ltd., Ningxia Baoting New Materials Technology Co., Ltd., Southwest Chemical Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd., and Fuzhou Product Quality Inspection Institute, with many industry experts participating in the compilation of the standard.
Carbon monoxide is an important basic industrial gas with extensive industrial application scenarios. In the industrial field, carbon monoxide can be used as industrial fuel and metallurgical reducing agent. It is also a key raw material for the C1 chemical industry, used in the synthesis of chemicals such as methanol, phosgene, and acetic acid; in addition, it can be used in fields such as high-purity metal purification and standard gas preparation.
It is worth noting that carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, and highly toxic. It easily binds with human hemoglobin to cause hypoxic suffocation, posing extremely high safety risks. Strict safety control is required throughout the entire process of production, storage, transportation, and use.
This new version of the standard is a revision. Once the new standard is officially implemented, the old version GB/T 35995-2018 will be replaced and abolished.
Industry insiders stated that after the implementation of the new standard, it will further standardize China's carbon monoxide product quality indicators, test methods, and general technical requirements. It will improve the standard basis for the production, trade, and application links of carbon monoxide, assist the high-quality development of the industrial gas industry, and provide standardized support for quality control and safety management of toxic industrial gases.
There is still a sufficient transition period before the official implementation. Relevant production enterprises, testing institutions, and downstream application units can organize the study of the new standard content in advance, optimize production control and testing processes according to the requirements of the new standard, and make preparations for the switch between the old and new standards.
