Sigma Lithium plans to double its production capacity to 830,000 tonnes of lithium concentrate by the end of 2028.

Sigma Lithium disclosed its expansion plan in its Q2 2026 financial report. The company's Brazilian Grota do Cirilo lithium project will construct new facilities in two phases, aiming to reach a total installed capacity of 830,000 tons/year of lithium concentrate (lithium oxide concentrate) by the end of 2028, representing more than a doubling of the current nominal capacity.

According to the disclosure, the company's current nominal capacity is 330,000 tons/year; upon the completion of the Phase 2 Plant 2, the total capacity will increase to 580,000 tons/year by the end of 2027; subsequently, the construction of Plant 3 will proceed. Both Plant 2 and Plant 3 will add a single-unit capacity of 250,000 tons/year each, bringing the total capacity to 830,000 tons/year of lithium concentrate by the end of 2028 once fully operational.

Sigma Lithium delivered a standout operational performance in the second quarter, with its EBITDA margin hitting a historic high of 47%, and production cash costs declining significantly year-on-year, underpinning the company's aggressive expansion plan. Market analysis suggests that the full commissioning of the project will bring a substantial increase in low-cost lithium concentrate to the global market, further intensifying the pressure on global lithium raw material supply. The expansion progress remains subject to disruptions from factors such as construction, environmental assessment, and funding, and actual production commencement carries uncertainties.
