Mutares acquires SABIC business for $450 million to expand into new chemical and materials sectors
Recently, German investment group Mutares SE & Co. KGaA officially completed the acquisition of the engineering thermoplastics (ETP) business of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) in the Americas and Europe. The enterprise value of this transaction reached 450 million US dollars, setting a new record for the single transaction scale since the founding of Mutares. The acquired assets will operate independently under the new brand name NexPoint Materials, marking Mutares' official entry into the new strategic track of chemistry and materials.
The transaction is of great significance and becomes a milestone in the company's development
Johannes Laumann, Chief Investment Officer of Mutares, said that this acquisition is a landmark milestone in the company's development process. It is not only the largest M&A transaction in its history, but also a key step for the company to deepen its presence in the North American market and improve its global industrial layout. In the future, Mutares will deeply collaborate with the management team of NexPoint Materials, and empower the enterprise's technology iteration, capacity release and long-term steady growth with the support of the group's resources.
High-quality industrial assets with strong production capacity and brand strength
The SABIC ETP business in Europe and the Americas acquired this time has a mature and complete global production and operation system with strong industrial scale. The business as a whole has 1.085 million tons of resin production capacity and 780,000 tons of modified composite production capacity, and has laid out 8 production bases in the Americas and Europe, with about 2,800 full-time employees.
Its core main products cover polycarbonate (PC), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), ABS resin and various modified composite materials, and holds world-famous engineering plastic brands such as LEXAN, CYCOLOY, VALOX, CYCLOLAC, with outstanding industry influence.
Leading industry position covering diverse downstream markets
This business segment has significant competitive advantages in the industry. It is the world's second-largest polycarbonate (PC) producer and a leading ABS producer in the United States, and also the only PBT resin producer in the United States, with extremely high market barriers.
Its products are widely used in core fields such as automobile, construction, consumer electronics, electrical appliances, medical and health care. It has high-quality customer structure and wide market coverage, with strong market risk resistance and development resilience.
Empower the group's upgrading and improve the new material industry layout
Through this major acquisition, Mutares has successfully entered the high-end chemistry and new materials track. In the future, the company will fully rely on the upstream and downstream integrated industrial platform, mature technology system and rich innovation pipeline of the acquired enterprise, continue to optimize production and operation efficiency, release production capacity and technical value, comprehensively improve the comprehensive strength and value creation ability of the group's new materials sector, and help the enterprise realize global and diversified industrial upgrading.
