ECHA PUBLISHES A WEBPAGE ON SOCIO-ECONOMIC ANALYSIS

https://www.chemnet.com   Mar 26,2009

A new page on socio-economic analysis is now available on the ECHA website. It introduces the role of the socio-economic analysis in the restriction and authorisation procedures and other legislative actions on chemical substances under REACH.

The socio-economic analysis (SEA) is performed when ECHA needs to give its opinion on a proposal to restrict the use of a chemical substance or when industry has submitted an application to use a substance which is on the list of substances subject to Authorisation.

Through socio-economic analysis, the consequences of a restriction or authorisation for the society and for the economy are assessed with qualitative and quantitative methods. The Committee for Socio-Economic Analysis is responsible for giving an opinion on this assessment at ECHA.

The new webpage offers an easy access to SEA activities at ECHA and provides practical links to further information. For instance, an electronic copy of proceedings of the recent workshop "Applying socio-economic analysis as a part of Restriction proposals under REACH" (21-22 October 2008) can be found on the page.

The page also offers a gateway to "Information and data portal for socio-economic analysis (SEA)". The portal can now be used. It will be continuously updated and further developed in the next few months.

We hope that you will find the web page useful as an information source. Your suggestions and ideas for further development are welcome - please send them using the web form accessible through the SEA page.
