Europe: Poland discusses increasing capacity of German gas interconnector

Poland's energy regulator, URE, said late Wednesday that the state-run transmission system operator, Gaz-System, will present its opinion on the draft procedures to increase the capacity of the country's interconnector with Germany by the end of April.
Gaz-System is working on a project to increse the capacity of the interconnector, located at Lasow on the German border, from 0.9 billion cubic meters/year to 1.5 Bcm/year.
URE and Gaz-System have agreed that the TSO should be in a position to announce the shipping trade agreements by September, URE said in a statement.
The regulator and TSO also agreed that the transmission procedures will create the possibility to separate part of the bandwidth for short-term contracts of less than 12 months.
The Lasow interconnector is currently the country's sole gas network connection with a European Union neighbor. Gaz System also has plans to build a second EU interconnector with the Czech Republic.
