Sinopec's daily crude throughput in May estimated up 1.32%

Sinopec's refineries are estimated to process a total of 18.3-18.5-mil mt of crude in May, with daily throughput up 1.32% month-on-month to 593,000mt, close to Sinopec's record high, C1's research showed.

Shijiazhuang refinery boosted daily crude throughput by 45% as from the second half of April, after maintenance of a 5-mil-mt/yr crude distillate unit, and Guangzhou Petrochemical resumed normal production in May, after maintenance of a 5.2-mil-mt/yr CDU and some secondary units. Furthermore, Fujian Refining & Petrochemical completed maintenance of a 4-mil-mt/yr CDU in early May and stepped up production. The other refineries under Sinopec are expected to keep crude throughput high in May.

Sinopec is likely to maintain high crude throughput in June when hardly any of its subsidiary refineries will be under maintenance. Only Sinopec Qingdao refinery is scheduled for turnaround as from Jun 20.

C1 reported earlier that Sinopec planned to hike crude throughput to 56-mil mt in the second quarter, up 5% from the previous quarter or up 8% year-on-year, thanks to little maintenance and expectation of strong demand for petroleum products. The oil major is estimated to process a combination of 37-38-mil mt of crude in April and May.
