Sinopec Wuhan Petrochemical's 1.5-mil-mt/yr delayed coker took fire around 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, but crude throughput was not affected for the time being, a refinery source told C1.

Up until now, the fire has been put out and the unit has halted operation, the source revealed, adding the other units were in normal operations.

It is difficult to tell when the unit would resume operation at the moment, according to the source.

Wuhan Petrochemical has two delayed cokers, a 1-mil-mt/yr one of which went into turnaround early this year.

Wuhan Petrochemical set May crude throughput target at 440,000mt, with daily crude consumption up 1.38% on month, as C1 reported earlier.

Wuhan Petrochemical, located in Wuhan City of Central China's Hubei Province, is one of major refineries alongside the Yangtze River. It is equipped with a 3.5-mil-mt/yr crude distillate unit and a 5-mil-mt/yr CDU, but the former was temporarily idled due to insufficient ethylene production capacity.
