Shandong-based Laizhou Dongfang Petrochemical Storage Co Ltd is likely to start operation of 230,000-cu-m oil tanks around October 2011, according to a source with the tank farm.

These tanks comprise four 50,000-cu-m tanks for crude and heavy oil in combination and three 10,000-cu-m ones for oil products, the source said. The construction of these tanks is being wrapped up, he said.

With the new tanks on stream, the tank farm's storage capacity will rise to 810,000 cu m.

In addition to these tanks, Dongfang Petrochemical Storage's phase-III expansion project consists of a pipeline between the tank farm and Changyi Petrochemical, he added.

C1 reported earlier that the project came under construction in the middle of 2009 and was expected to come on line in September-October 2010.

Laizhou Dongfang Petrochemical Storage was jointly built by Shandong Changyi Petrochemical, China Arts Huahai Import & Export Corp, China Arts (Singapore), Shandong Huaxing Petrochemical and Zhenghe Group. In addition to 580,000 cu m of storage capacity-520,000 cu m for fuel oil and 60,000 cu m for oil products, the tank farm is equipped with berths with 10-mil mt of annual cargo handling capacity.
