The 5-mil-mt/yr expansion project of PetroChina Ningxia Petrochemical is expected to start commercial operation at the end of October, with construction complete recently, a refinery source said.

The project includes a 5-mil-mt /yr crude distillation unit, a 2.6-mil-mt/yr fluid catalytic cracker, a 900,000-mt/yr continuous reformer, a 1.6-mil-mt/yr gasoil hydrogenation unit, an 80,000mt/yr MTBE unit and a 400,000-mt/yr gas fractionation unit, C1 reported earlier.

With the above unit on stream, Ningxia Petrochemical is capable of producing 1.6-mil mt of GB III gasoline (with sulfur content below 150ppm) and 2.3-mil mt of GB III gasoil (with sulfur content below 350ppm) and 230,000mt of LPG per year.

Located in Yinchuan City of Northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Ningxia Petrochemical has a topping capacity of 1.5-mil mt per annum at present.
