The average US retail price for regular grade gasoline rose 1.2 cents to $3.436/gal the survey week ending Monday, according to Energy Information Administration data.

At that level, the national average is 54.4 cents higher than a year ago.

The largest change in price week-to-week among the main regions was a 3.7-cent lift to $3.376/gal in the Midwest, the EIA data show. At the other end of the price-change range, the Rocky Mountain average dropped 2.4 cents to $3.445/gal.

Elsewhere, regional prices changed little. The West Coast average fell 1.3 cents to $3.759/gal while the East Coast average rose by 1 cent to $3.424/gal. The Gulf Coast average was nearly flat, up 0.7 cent at $3.231/gal.

EIA each Monday publishes average US retail prices for all three grades of gasoline. The data is collected by telephone from a sample of 900 retail gasoline outlets. The reported price includes all taxes and is the pump price paid by a consumer as of 8 a.m. EDT Monday.
