GM units Chevrolet and GMC will begin in April offering two models of pickup trucks that can run on either gasoline or natural gas, the automaker said Monday.

The vehicles, the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 HD extended cab pickup trucks, will include a compressed natural gas capable Vortec 6.0L V8 engine that can switch between CNG and gasoline fuel systems, the company said. The vehicles will have a range of more than 650 miles.

"The bi-fuel truck provides businesses with added re-fueling flexibility and eases consumer range concerns that typically come with CNG, all while reducing emissions and controlling costs," Joyce Mattman, director of GM Commercial Product and Specialty Vehicles, said in a statement.

The trucks are built in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and then sent to the Tier One supplier for installation of the CNG bi-fuel delivery and storage system, the companies said. The bi-fuel commercial trucks meet all US Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board emission certification requirements.
