The NYMEX September natural gas futures contract posted a preliminary settlement Wednesday of $3.46/MMBtu, up 1.6 cents, on a supportive short-term weather outlook and as traders bided time before Thursday's storage report.

The NYMEX settlement is considered preliminary and is subject to change until a final settlement is posted at 7 p.m. EDT (2300 GMT).
