WASHINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - SABIC Innovative Plastics is laying off up to 80 employees at its plant in Wood County in a restructuring aimed at improving cost efficiency.
SABIC spokeswoman Shelia Nabb says production of two resin products will be transferred from the Washington plant to the company's facility in Ottawa, Ill.
Nabb says the Ottawa plant can manufacture the resin products at a lower cost because it has a continuous operation. The Washington plan was designed as a batch production facility.
The Washington plant has 220 employees. The layoffs will be effective in April.
Nabb says the company is offering a voluntary layoff program.
SABIC acquired the plant from GE Plastics in 2007.
