PPG Tianjin takes home “CSR-Environment Award”

TIANJIN, China, June 3, 2010 ---The largest plant of PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) in Asia, PPG Coatings (Tianjin) Co., Ltd, recently won the “CSR-Environment Award” in “CSR-Environment Forum” sponsored by TEDA Environmental Protection Bureau, TEDA International Chamber of Commerce and Friends of Green.



Ms. Cathy Yan, general manager, government affairs and business development, PPG Asia/Pacific, stepped forward to accept the award. Mr. Ren Minhuai, EHS Director, PPG Asia/Pacific, delivered an outstanding speech on “Green Concept, Environmental Protection” as the Forum reached crecendo.



PPG Industries is committed to manufacturing, distributing and selling products all over the world by maintaining a high sense of responsibility in protecting employees, communities, customers and the environment. To this end, EHS procedures have been incorporated into management systems of different strategic business units.


With the formation of Energy Security and Climate Change Committee in 2007, PPG has set demanding corporate targets: a 25 percent reduction in energy intensity from 2006-2016; a 10 percent absolute reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emssions from 2006-2011.When establishing global facilities, PPG always takes full account of factors that might affect the environment, health and safety in the future. Last year, the Committee set up a Zhangjiagang resin plant—the first “Green Model Plant”in China. PPG is dedicated to become a role model of energy conservation and CO2 reduction in production. As a global supplier of paints, coatings, optical products, specialty materials, chemicals, glass and fiber glass, PPG is committed to developing environmental responsible products for its customers. In particular, 3% of its annual sales go to R & D, and 70% of the funds are earmarked for the development of “green”or innovative products. Reflecting EHS concepts, PPG Seigneurie, IVY, Master’s Mark architectural coatings and energy-efficient glasses are applied in decorations and exterior walls in the France Pavilion, US Pavilion and China Pavilion in the Shanghai World Expo. In addition, PPG also does its utmost to add a touch of “green”to its welfare activities.



Ms. Yan said: “Recognition of the concerns and needs of society is a key corporate value for PPG. We are actively engaged in public welfare home and abroad, combining welfare activities with ‘green’ concepts so as to fulfill our social responsibilities. ” Meanwhile, Mr. Ren Minhuai also indicated: “PPG has always devoted itself to integrating ‘green strategies’ into core businesses.” It is expected that PPG’s “Green Initiatives” will permeate “producing, purchasing and using eco-friendly products” in every employee’s mind. In the future, PPG will continue to shoulder its environmental responsibilities as it always did, contributing its share to low-carbon economic development globally.


In 2010, PPG Tianjin will take the lead in organizing a volunteer team, which will keep a close eye on hot topics and urgent demands in local communities and conduct relevant activities. Among other things, PPG will plan a series of promotional events targeted at “green environmental protection” and social responsibilities. In this way, PPG will further develop its corporate culture with a focus on environmental protection and practice what it preaches—social responsibility.
