Hebei Coking Industry Association has raised its reference metallurgical coke prices by Yuan 50/mt ($7.40/mt) for August deliveries compared with July's levels for July, it said in a statement Tuesday.

The statement did not give specific prices for August deliveries. But an HBCIA executive told Platts that the August reference price for first-grade coke (ash content less than 12.5%, sulfur less than 0.7%, and crushing strength of over 92.0%) will be about Yuan 2,050/mt ($302.7/mt, free-on-truck, including 17% VAT).

The reference price for second-grade coke (ash content no more than 13.5%, sulfur no more than 0.8%, and crushing strength of 88-92%) will be about Yuan 1,800-1,900/mt, he said.

"It is hard to give specific reference prices for coke products [in Hebei Province] as ex-works prices vary largely from company to company," the HBCIA
executive said.

The statement also noted that Hebei Province's coking industry has been suffering losses at a rate of about Yuan 150/mt of coke produced.

Meanwhile, HBCIA also called on its member coking companies to control their coke stocks and maintain their production cuts of 30-50%.
