China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released Sunday a list of units in major energy-consuming industries, including coking and iron and steelmaking, set for elimination.

The list included 192 coking companies that will shut batteries with a combined coking capacity of 25.87 million mt/year by the end of September. Most of the affected units have a respective coking capacity of no more than
400,000 mt/year.

Major coking companies involved include Shanxi Lucheng Lufeng Coking Co (500,000 mt/year), Shanxi Xiangfen Houlin Coking Co (500,000 mt/year), Shanxi
Luliang Dongyi Group (420,000 mt/year), Hebei Jizhong Energy Group's Fengfeng
Coking Co (360,000 mt/year), and Hebei Handan Yufeng Coal and Chemicals Co
(350,000 mt/year).

China already eliminated small coking companies with a combined capacity of 84.12 million mt by the end of 2009.

Prior to that, three rounds of orders to shut inefficient coking companies with a combined coking capacity of 65.58 million mt/year were issued in October 2007, January 2008 and November 2008 respectively.

In the first half of 2010, China produced 192.87 million mt of coke, up 21.4% from the 158.87 million mt in the equivalent year-earlier period. China produced 345 million mt of coke in 2009, up 10.5% from 312.15 million mt in
2008.
