China: Tropical storm may delay LPG cargo arrivals in part of S. China

The tropical storm "Dianmu", which was formed in the sea east to Taiwan late on Aug 8, may delay some LPG barge cargoes to reach Fujian and east Guangdong in South China.

Due to strong wind, some ships to pass the Taiwan Strait already took shelter in the evening of Aug 8, said a terminal source in east Guangdong. "If the tropical storm continues to impact eastern coastal areas, some LPG cargoes to be shipped southwards to the eastern part of South China will arrive behind schedule," the source added.

As cargo arrivals may decrease due to the tropical storm, terminals in east Guangdong raised LPG prices modestly. They lifted prices by about Yuan 50/mt to Yuan 5,330-5,350/mt on Monday, some data shows.

But converged cargo arrivals after the storm will probably put some terminals under pressure from cargo unloading.

The tropical storm is not expected to affect LPG shipping in the Pearl River Delta.
