PetroChina Liaoyang Petrochemical is expected to refine 650,000mt of crude in May, sharply up 20% from actual consumption of the previous month, according to a refinery source.

The refinery had to postpone the launch of a 4.5-mil-mt/yr crude distillate unit from Apr 20 to the second half of May because of affected feedstock transportation, the source said, adding it processed only 540,000mt of crude in April, 80,000mt lower than scheduled.

Liaoyang Petrochemical would be under more pressure in May as purchase cost of major feedstock Russia crude surged over Yuan 1,000/mt compared with the begging of this year, market sources denoted.

Liaoyang Petrochemical plans to refine a total 8.6-mil mt of crude in the whole year of 2011, as C1 reported previously.

Liaoyang Petrochemical, located in Northeast China's Liaoning Province, has a topping capacity of 9-mil mt per year at present. It receives Russia crude mainly via the Sino-Russia Crude Pipeline. It is designed to largely produce gasoil.
