Refineries in China processed 35.55-mil mt of crude all together in June, with daily throughput declining 4.5% from May to 1.19-mil mt, data released by the National Bureau of Statistics showed.

The June throughput was down 7.58% from the previous month, down 0.7% from a year ago, according to the data.

Major refineries went into maintenance peak period in June. In Northeast China, Dalian Petrochemical shut down its 10-mil-mt/yr crude distillation unit (CDU) for maintenance; Jinzhou Petrochemical, Jinxi Petrochemical and Jilin Petrochemical also revamped some of their units. In Northwest China, a total of 11.5-mil-mt/yr refining capacity entered maintenance at Urumchi Petrochemical, Ningxia Refining & Chemical and Lanzhou Petrochemical. In addition, a 10-mil-mt/yr CDU at Qingdao Refining & Chemical in Shandong Province was in maintenance.

Accumulatively crude throughput in the first six months of the year reached 223-mil mt, climbing 7.1% from the same period last year, also showed NBS data. The surge was mainly attributed to operations of newly-build and expanded projects since the second half of 2010.
