SunSirs: China Corrugated Paper Price is Stable in the Short Term

According to the monitoring of the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, the price of corrugated paper has stopped rising and remained stable this week. On August 23rd, the average ex factory price of 140g corrugated paper was 2,606 RMB/ton, which remained stable compared to the average price on August 18th.

In terms of upstream raw materials, the price of waste paper in Zhejiang Province has slightly increased this week. On August 23rd, the average purchase price of A-grade waste yellow cardboard in Zhejiang Province was 1,523 RMB/ton, an increase of 0.4% compared to the average price on August 11th. Recently, many regions have been affected by rainy weather, resulting in a decrease in the amount of waste purchased by waste collection stations, which has kept paper raw materials at a low level. Therefore, in order to replenish inventory, the price of waste paper still shows an upward trend, but the upward trend has slowed down.

Supply side: Currently, most paper mills are operating normally, and spot supply is stable. The price policy of paper mills varies in market size, with the implementation of price increase policies in northern bases and the reduction of some specifications in Dongguan bases. Price trends are differentiated among different regions.

In terms of demand, downstream packaging factories have insufficient improvement in demand orders, and their cautious attitude towards raw paper procurement has not decreased. The market trading volume is average, and procurement is relatively low. As the holiday approaches, there is also a positive awareness of order stocking, but due to the high inventory of finished products in various paper companies, there is little room for further demand to increase, so prices tend to run steadily.

The paper analyst from SunSirs believes that domestic waste paper prices are still performing well, and there is some support from the cost side for paper prices. However, the market supply and demand game continues, and many businesses are in a wait-and-see state. It is expected that the price of corrugated paper will remain stable in the short term and remain on the sidelines.
