Fluor to share in $1.8b BHP contract

Fluor Corp. said Tuesday one of its joint ventures has landed a $1.8 billion contract for an iron ore expansion project in Western Australia.

Melbourne, Australia-based mining company BHP Billiton awarded the contract to the Mine & Port Development joint venture between Fluor Australia Pty Ltd. and Sinclair Knight Merz.

Fluor said its share of the contract is 50 percent.

This expansion will increase mine's capacity to 155 million tons per annum from 129 million tons per annum. Fluor also performs rail and port modifications. The expansion is expected to be completed in early 2010.
