South Korea's Lotte Daesan Petrochemical Corp. has shut its 250,000 tpa polypropylene production on account of an unexpected outage for approximately one week. The loss of production for five days is estimated to be between 1,500-2,000 tons. The production line was shut after five out of its 10 silos malfunctioned, and as damage to the tap of the storage tanks was done.

The company will not shut down its naphtha crackers, as the outage is a minor part of the entire production line. Industry sources say that the outage will not have a significant impact on the market as long it restarts next week, but if the halt is prolonged, the already tight polypropylene market would be pressured.
