USG natural gas shut-ins at 1.288 Bcf/d ahead of storm: MMS

Oil production shut-ins in the US Gulf of Mexico were 360,169 b/d on Thursday, the US Minerals Management Service reported.

The agency also reported that about 1.288 Bcf/d of natural gas production had been shut it.

Producers have begun to shut in production ahead of the path of a weather system expected to enter the region soon.

The oil shut-ins equated to about 27.7% of normal daily production of 1.3 million b/d, and gas shut-ins were about 16.7% of the normal daily output of 7.7 Bcf/d, MMS noted.

Of the total oil shut-ins, 17,762 b/d were in the region's Lafayette district, while the Houma district had 156,784 b/d and New Orleans had 185,623 b/d shut in, according to MMS data.

Gas shut-ins were distributed as follows: Lafayette, 40,000 Mcf/d; Houma, 160,000 Mcf/d; New Orleans, 1.080 Bcf/d.

MMS also reported that as of 11:30 EDT, personnel had been evacuated from 5 production platforms, equivalent to 0.6% of the 834 manned platforms in the Gulf. Of the platform evacuations, three were in the New Orleans district, and one each in Lake Jackson and Lake Charles.
