STOCKHOLM, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Oil production on the Norwegian Shelf is back to normal, after seven platforms were closed down before a storm hit the North Sea Thursday, according to reports reaching here Saturday.
More than 700 oil workers were evacuated from the most exposed platforms as a precaution Wednesday and Thursday. However, there are no reports of serious damage or injuries after the storm, according to Norwegian broadcaster NRK.
Norway is one of the world's most important oil producers and exporters. The overall output from the fields that were temporarily closed amounts to roughly 320,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, Norwegian oil company StatoilHydro announced.
With Saturday's oil price, this could mean a loss of 6.5 million Norwegian kronor (about 1.2 million U.S. dollars) in income for the company, according to StatoilHydro.
